Review Center

Once upon a time, a young otaku named D50 had a website dedicated to reviewing whatever anime he watched, regardless of if he was paying attention or not.

In 2009, he continues where he left off.

I have come to realize that being completely unbiased is an impossibility. Rather than rating anime by a 1-10 scale, implying that certain anime are better than others numerically, I’ve decided to go for a different system. While I will still use a rank from 1 to 5, it will be rated by one of the following categories:

Epicness – Basically, by the end I thought it was epic or meant to be epic. Experience may have been accompanied by giddiness, wide eyes, or dropped jaw.
Emotion – I had some form of strong emotional response from watching. I may have been moved to tears. Well, one or two anyway. That in itself is a huge accomplishment.
Cheez – This was a total B-movie, and will probably be rated on how close it was to being a respectable piece of cinema.
Comedy – It’s obviously a comedy. So basically how funny it was.
Accuracy – Above all else, how accurate it was compared to the manga or novel or visual novel or game will tend to overshadow any of its strengths. So I might as well not kid myself and actually rate it on how accurate it is.
Wankability – There’s only one reason you have to watch it. So how does it stack up? Huhuhuh.

In addition to those categories, every anime will be rated on the following secondary qualities:

Pleasure Rating: This is basically how good I felt about watching and/or owning the title. It uses the following scale:

*Clockwork Orange’d
*Must’ve Been High
*I Can’t Believe I Watched the Whole Thing
*Guilty Pleasure
*No Regrets
*Damn Good Watch
*Proudly Displayed in a Glass Case

Rewatchability: Sure, it’s good, but would you watch it again or just absorb the information, never to use it again, like whatever you were studying in your senior year?

Music: I foresee three potential scores: “forgettable,” “catchy theme song,” and “Yuki Kajiura.”

Marketability: I dunno, some anime characters just have “the look” that make people rabid fanboys of them. And half the time it doesn’t matter about what kind of person they are, it’s all looks. Seriously.

What I watch:

My hobby is salvaging VHS tapes, and I tend to buy anything as long as it’s anime. So a majority of what I’ll be reporting is crap you’ve never even heard of. Fun times abound. Hope you’re ready.
