So, we’re finally at the episode I’ve been waiting for since Sailor Moon Crystal was announced, and I have to say… I’m surprised at A LOT of things, both for the better and for the worse.
Let’s get this out of the way first: overall it was a well-animated episode. Some awkwardness here and there – mostly how the Shitennou were animated (which is sad since they mostly just stood around menacingly while stuff happened offscreen).
My first gripe as I was watching? They denied us Sailor Venus’ moment of glory.
The Holy Sword was created for the Senshi to protect the Princess! The Princess should not be using it as a weapon! WHY DO WE GET NO VENUS-IMPALING-BERYL SCENE?!
I’ll be honest: when I first read the manga, I was shocked by a lot of changes. But it was when I saw Venus being the one responsible for killing Queen Beryl when I first felt like “Wow! Why couldn’t THIS have happened in the anime?” It was the moment I looked forward to most when Crystal was announced AND IT DIDN’T FUCKING HAPPEN. The fact that Venus didn’t get knocked out and abducted by Endymion right after was just frosting on the shitcake.
As much as I resented that omission, I did at least appreciate how different so much of the episode was from the manga. Many of the changes felt logical and gave the chapter a better flow. The Senshi not being at the Moon/Endymion encounter until the last second was better than them spamming attacks at Metalia and getting floored. And it was CERTAINLY better than having all four of them die at the hands of FOUR RANDOM YOUMA.
Now for the one change that overshadowed the omitted impalement: The Shitennou. They prevented the Senshi from helping Sailor Moon by blocking them from the entrance to the Dark Kingdom. Fine. They’re stronger than ever? Fine. The potential of this showdown being butchered by a complete lack of animation? I’M ACTUALLY OKAY WITH THAT. But ho-lee crap… they have their memories restored for a few seconds before METALIA JUST NUKES THEM? IS THAT WHAT WE’VE BUILDING UP TO THIS WHOLE SEASON?! Everything about that was just… ugh. WASN’T QUEEN METALIA BEHIND ENDYMION AT THE SAME TIME?! What, did she just… poof, disappear for a brief moment so she can kill the Shitennou, taunt the Senshi, and poof, return to standing behind Endymion to taunt Sailor Moon? Couldn’t she have just used that power to kill the Senshi? I think the worst part was that they cry over their deaths for a few seconds… before getting over it immediately because fuck it, not like we really knew the guys; they were just kinda hot is all.
Still, at least the episode ended the way it should have. The next episode preview looks great, even though it looks like they’re actually going through with what was my biggest gripe about the manga: the Senshi using their transformation pens and dying for no reason.
I don´t care what people thing, and I don´t care how is the story in manga. I NEVER wanted to see Venus killing Beryl instead of Sailor Moon in manga. NEVER. Not because I hate her, actually I like her and I apreciate her beauty a lot. But because I thing it was a very humiliating and underestimate act towards the protagonist which always won my heart with her unique hair´s style. Venus can be the original senshi, Sailor V, or anything else, even if I think that her manga is a little more humorous than SM´s manga, but she never will win my admiration like Usagi did. And is funny. Many people were indignated when they see Sailor Moon killing Beryl, because that was turning Venus in a very dependent person of Sailor Moon. But ironically, those people don´t mind seeing Sailor Moon to much dependent of the others Senshi protection, like Sailor Venus was making when she killed Beryl in the manga. Is a little ironic, but is what it happens. I don´t care. People can habe their opinions and this is mine, and I don´t belong to the group who think that should be Venus the one to kill Beryl. I never wanted see Venus killing Beryl. I even celebrated when I saw Sailor Moon killing her. For me, was the best that could happen. And Sailor Moon was the one who was smart. While Venus acted completely independent when she killed Beryl, Sailor Moon was more cautious and asked for her friends help to defead Beryl. That was the right choice. I became a little tired of Venus independence in Sailor Moon manga. Is to much. She even had the privilege to go with Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask to the future, while the other senshi were abducted. I always find that completely nonsense. For that, go all the senshi with them to the future just like in the first anime. What sense it makes a couple travel to same place in the company of a just another person, just one? Sorry, but this is what I think. If you don´t agree, what I already expect, thats with you. I never wanted to see Venus killing Beryl. NEVER. I thanks to Toei for let Sailor Moon doing it.
That’s a lot of words to say you don’t like Venus standing out so much in the manga. Because that’s all that wall of text really boils down to.
And if it is, whats the problem? Is an opinion like everyone has their own. Yes, I get very tired of Venus to much attention over her in manga. More because the others scouts, like Mercury, Mars and Jupiter don´t have the privileges that she has, like if they were minor characters, and I find that very unfair. I would like more to see Venus killing Beryl if that didn´t underestimate the protagonist, who I always loved, altough my favourite character is Tuxedo Mask. For me, was wonderful see Sailor Moon killing Beryl in Crystal. The Sailor Moon who I always wanted to see, fighting for her man´s freedom. Sailor Venus protagonist role was already stolen when appeared Sailor Moon manga. And is absurd saying that Sailor Moon stole Venus glory. Did Sailor Moon read her own manga to know that she had to give that glorious moment to Venus, to not be called selfish? Don´t get me wrong in one thing. I like Venus, but I love Sailor Moon. And, yes, I loved seeing Sailor Moon killing Beryl instead of Venus. And this is an opinion like many others. And since you all say so many horrible things about a character that I really love, like Sailor Moon, than, try to respect my opinion about Venus, because is not so horrible like that. Anyway, I don´t know what Sailor moon stole. She didn´t read her own manga to know that she did it.

You’ve already said your opinion and everyone is free to have theirs. You just keep bringing up a lot of little details and stressing your freedom of opinion, and it sounds like you’re pre-emptively arguing in defense of your opinion. Just… say your opinion and don’t worry about protecting your right to say it.
For the record, I don’t know WHY you claim I said “so many horrible things” about characters you love, like Usagi. I love pretty much every character in this series, even the villains (especially the villains). My only complaints have to do with the choices the studio made.
Sorry if I was agressive. Not my intention. Actually, even If I don´t agree when was Venus killing Beryl, I can respect it. But was very frustrating seeing people against Usagi just because it was her. Even if Venus didn´t killed Beryl she still we have lots of moments in her favor and stand out.
I´m gonna contradict a little what I said before. I still don´t agree when is Venus killing Beryl in manga. BUT. After see that part of the manga a little more, I arrive to a logic conclusion. Sailor Venus killed Beryl with the help of Sailor Moon. Oh, yes it is! Do you remember when Venus called for the sword and she couldn´t carry it at first because it was to much heavy? Then Sailor Moon was being suffocated by Beryl´s hair and she says ” It´s so painful. But I can´t die yet. Not here!” And then she says ” Mamoru I can´t die before I get you back”. And then the silver crystal begins to shine in reaction to Sailor Moon´s wishes. And because of that wish, Sailor Venus won strength to hold the sword and kill Beryl. What it means that, thanks to Sailor Moon´s wishes she could gave Venus the power to kill Beryl, indirectly. It makes sense, since the silver crystal shined in that moment. And it was Sailor Moon who made the sword shine, because the sword it would shine when the silver crystal begins to react to the wishes of who will someday become queen, like it was said in manga. It wasn´t because Venus killed Beryl. So, Sailor Moon, indirectly, helped Venus to kill Beryl. But is funny because noone sees that detail. But I still say that Sailor Moon was more inteligent and strategic than Venus when she called her friends to defead Beryl together. And stop saying that Sailor Moon stole Venus moment. She didn´t read her own manga to know that she was stealing the glory of someone. So stop with that, who says that.
Are you still attacking that “stealing glory?” Get over it. It has NOTHING to do with character motives, so stop trying to argue as if I said that. A sequence of events was different between the manga and Crystal, and I disagree with the change. I’m not saying anything like Usagi had ill intentions towards Venus, so why are you trying to say that’s what I said?
In fact, I NEVER used the word “stole.” YOU said that, and started arguing against it. I said Venus missed out on her moment of glory. I never said Sailor Moon took it from her. So who are you really arguing with?
Actually I wasn´t refearing to you but in general, because I know that you never said that Sailor Moon stole something. And is not me too who is saying that Sailor Moon stole something from Venus, what is ridiculous but other people. They decided to do a different way. and I agree better with this way. And what I really wanted was to share that observation of the manga moment. So, don´t worry because the arguing is not with you.
