Today the first Summer patch is released, bringing with it a new field (that I still can’t enter yet) and a new boss. And new drops. Continuing my summer of unproductiveness. That’s not even a proper word, is it? Whatever. Here’s the other stuff I’ve been up to since my last PSO2 update. Spoilers ahoy?
I spent a lot of time grinding and getting to know more about the game. Like the Emergency Codes. This is the Destruction Emergency Code. It doesn’t show up very often, and it’s pretty stupid. A big ball of… stuff… appears, and you just whack away at it until it dies. It has some nifty tentacles that on occasion deal pathetic damage, and I guess monsters spawn to protect it. It’s really just easy EXP, though it does take a while to take it down.
More annoying is the Rescue Emergency Code. A portal appears and slowly floats towards you. Your party gets transported to ANOTHER PART OF THE MAP (especially annoying if you’re on a time limit for a quest), and you have to whack your way out of the barrier preventing you from leaving. Other parties can locate you and help destroy the dome, but good luck if you’re alone.
And we already covered the Duel Emergency Code. Bosses appear from time to time in regular areas. And it’s awkward as hell in the Forest field. The Dark Ragne is JUST TOO DAMN BIG. You can’t even REACH that ledge! This shouldn’t be possible!
Finally, once I’d leveled up enough to complete the requirements of the second Matter Board, I went to work on the story. First you learn from Patty and Tia about… stuff regarding the Darkers. I dunno. But I do know that what happens next is particularly interesting…
You encounter a masked man in the forest, and he is noticeably VERY different from other characters you’ve encountered.
After meeting him and having another talk with Shion it’s time to…
Go back to the EXACT SAME story chapter you went to the last time! As it turns out, my suspicions were confirmed. This is the same place as the tutorial chapter, and the same place you met Matoi. When you enter the field, you hear Matoi’s “help me” cry, followed immediately by another (creepier, male) voice’s “Who are you?”
When it comes time to save Matoi, your attention is diverted someplace else. Since you’re caught in what appears to be a time loop, you’re saving Matoi at the same time, so don’t feel bad about going to the new area.
By the way, upon entering the new area, you see the chapter’s title card. It’s “Chapter 1: The Masked Figure.” You’re reading that right. It’s Chapter 1 AGAIN. Which supports my theory that you’re in some sort of time loop. It’s probably explained better in-game, I just don’t know.
You of course meet the masked man again and…
…predictably get attacked due to what is apparently a misunderstanding. Question: Is he human or Darker? I don’t know if we ever find out, but instead of a neat battle, we’re left with…
This dick saving us. Not only does he blatantly look AND sound like a villain (despite being an Arks member), he’s got KNUCKLES equipped. WE DON’T EVEN GET THOSE WEAPONS UNTIL THE FALL PATCH, YOU ASS!
Why does the main character never get the cool fighting scenes in Phantasy Star? It’s like in GW Factions when most of the story felt like Mhenlo was the hero.
By the way, he’s not alone. He has a cute little assistant named Shina. That’s right, Shina. And she looks like that. To be fair, even though she looks like that, she appears to have a Wired Lance equipped behind her.
Wait, no, my mistake. That could be a Talis (Cards) device. Oh, and she operates the hologram computer too. What a generic lackey.
You’re asked a question and given a choice to respond with. I don’t know what I chose, but what followed was a bunch of mocking. The guy SERIOUSLY sounds like an asshole, and I wanted to waste his ass then and there.
Instead of a fight, he just leaves. I really want to beat him up.
In order to even attempt to unlock the next area, I have to be at level 30. I’m currently at level 24. So much grinding to do. And so I end this post with the only cap I made of the desert area, and one of its new weather events. BTW, the desert boss? Total pussy. Spends most of its time underground, and you only need to destroy its tendrils to make it expose its weak spot. Pathetic.
