VGL Act II Preview (plus slight update)

What happens after Sapphire City?  Obviously, you have to stop by every town west of there.  After entering a town for the first time, you won’t be able to leave town until you’ve slept at the Inn.  Before that happens, though, you go into Investigation Mode.

During Investigation Mode, you take control of Keith while Lucia wanders around town on her own.  Your job is to talk with other townspeople and learn about recent actions & demon movements, and other gossip.  Also during Investigation Mode, you can encounter Lucia at random places and interact with her.  Through Lucia interactions, you may be able to gain access to something new and receive items, but don’t expect such rewards to occur too often.  Most of the time though, you’ll just have an opportunity to get on Lucia’s good side.  Wait, does she even have a bad side?  Hmm….  Once you’ve activated all investigation points, you’ll head to the Inn immediately, or you can choose to go to the Inn ahead of time.  After Keith stops at the Inn, you take control of Lucia again and can make her do her own thing before she stops at the Inn as well.

During Act II Investigations, you can freely choose the order in which you stay at the towns and can even choose to go straight to Lucia’s place.  But, depending on what order you stop at each town, different things might happen…

…and no, that “might” isn’t a clue, I honestly haven’t decided if I’ll try to implement that or not.  I’d need a reason to do it first.

As of right now I still haven’t started Act II because I’m doing what I said I would, and working on the infrastructure of the game first. Speaking of which, I finally finished implementing catalyst-related equipment fixes for every mage in the game. The code makes me cry. ;_; Oh man, that took so long… I have fishing re-implemented in Lapis as well. I just need to work on all the other fishing spots and that takes care of all the unfinished work. After that, I’ll look over item and monster stats and try to work on balancing issues, and uh… work on more maps and animations.

Finally, look forward to two more crazy-strong bonus boss battles in the future. One of them will be another sidequest boss: Kyubi. Nine guesses what it’ll be. ^_^ And lastly, the ultimate unbeatable (but has to be beatable somehow) optional boss that every RPG needs, its name is Mana Incarnate. I have a bunch of awesome ideas flowing for it already, and what I have already implemented may just make you shit your pants. Bwa ha ha… Of course, in its current form, it’s just plain unbeatable, even with the best characters at max stats. And believe me, I tried. I’m working on the gimmick, believe me.

  1. Probably too late. Pants must have been soiled beyond repair due to the sheer awesomeness that was just spewed. I’m especially liking the idea of switching over to Keith.

  2. Interaction with Lucia from Keith’s perspective sounds interesting.

    Mana Incarnate… yeah that sounds like impossible manifested as a thing. A thing of death and light.
