Someone at Toei must love Sailor Jupiter, because this was probably the best episode yet in all aspects. Just like the Jupiter intro was the best of the Senshi intro episodes.
Animation-wise, absolutely nothing to complain about.
Well, okay. ONE thing.
Two major points to cover. First, the Chibi-Usa half of the episode. Much better than the last couple of episodes. It can be a little schizophrenic, though I think that’s on purpose. Usagi is supposed to be depressed, and for good cause. It’s important to show that Chibi-Usa is instrumental in breaker her out of depression and going back to her old self, even if just for a short while.
The Crystal Tokyo flashbacks were also better. The explosion really stood out to me because it involved more than a couple of frames.
Also, cats using computers.
Next, the Jupiter half:
Oh gawwwwwd, the Asanuma scenes! I don’t even know how to react. I just love ’em.
Really surprised he got as much focus as he did, though. I guess it’s because he was barely even in the 90s anime. Good that he got his time to shine in this episode, but some of his scenes regarding Mamoru were already skipped, and I don’t have a lot of faith that he’ll amount to much more in Crystal. I hope I’m wrong. I really do. I love how intense the little squirt is.
Poor Petz didn’t get nearly as much time to shine as Koan and Berthier. Meh. Never liked her in the first place. Still… could’ve been better. At the very least, she should’ve had her cyclone summoning power.
I was really looking forward to the return of Flower Hurricane, and it happened. Just the fact that it’s officially not a one-and-done attack makes me happy.
Sparkling Wide Pressure being a generic lightning attack was a little disappointing.
The manga version of this fight was downright terrible. After that showdown, Petz just outright overpowers Jupiter. At least Crystal used Jupiter’s sickness as a factor for her loss. All things considered, she gave a better fight than Mars or Mercury.
The preview for the next episode didn’t look nearly as promising as the preview for this one did, but I still have high hopes since the Black Moon arc is 3 for 3 so far.
