Gotta Go Fast: One-Punch Man Eps. 4-6

The greatest hero of our times.
The greatest hero of our times.

Time to move on with the rest of the watchthrough.

A group that calls themselves the Paradisers is making trouble because they don’t want to work.  The entire group shaves their heads, and this causes trouble for Saitama since everyone with bald heads is looked upon with suspicion.

A hero by the name of Mumen (Licenseless) Rider tries to stop them… and gets knocked out immediately.

Their target is the rich Zeniru, who has hired a bodyguard by the name of Speed-o’-Sound Sonic.

And unlike the manga, there's absolutely zero question about his gender. I mean, there was no question in the webcomic either, but... yeah.

Sonic slaughters the Paradisers, but the leader Hammerhead manages to escape, only to run into Saitama.

It's best not to question physics when One-Punch Man is involved.

Something about Hammerhead reminds Saitama a bit of himself, so he lets him off with a stern talking-to.  Hammerhead leaves, and Sonic shows up thinking Saitama is one of the Paradisers and attacks.

It doesn’t work out so well for him.

Perhaps I jumped the gun regarding the whole gender thing.

Sonic leaves, but not before proclaiming Saitama his rival and promising to kill him one day.

Back at home, Saitama is worried that no one recognizes him even though he’s been hero-ing for hobby for three years.

I love the way this guy visualizes.
I love the way this guy visualizes.

Turns out heroes don’t get recognized unless they register with the Hero Association.  Saitama decides to register and promises to take Genos in as his apprentice if he registers with him.

At the testing facility, Saitama completely shatters all records for the physical exams.  Which includes whack-a-mole for some reason.

Now he has enough tickets for a rainbow wig!

Saitama tanks the written test and barely passes with a 71, getting him acceptance into C-Class, while Genos is immediately promoted to S-Class.

On his way home, Saitama is accosted by A-Class Snakebite Snek, who teaches him about rookie-busting… and immediately gets his face buried in the floor.  Also, Sweet Mask (I’m NOT calling him Amai Mask… fuck that noise; I’m willing to accept Mumen over Licenseless because it makes the pun more obvious, but  there’s no fucking reason to use Amai over Sweet) takes an interest in Genos… and I’m not entirely certain it’s platonic.

"I'd like to conduct justice with him. In bed."
“I’d like to conduct justice with him. In bed.”

Finally, you can’t cover this episode without mentioning the practice battle between Genos and Saitama.  It’s.  Fucking.  Awesome.  Even gifs won’t do it justice (no, I’m totally not just being lazy, I swear…)  Just watch it.  You won’t regret it.

In the end, Genos realizes that no matter what he does, he won’t come close to Saitama’s level of power.

Nailed it.
Nailed it.

A few days later, Genos tells Saitama that Class C heroes need to constantly be reporting deeds to the Hero Association or they’ll be taken off the registry.  Saitama panics and starts patrolling like mad, but not before telling Genos that he should aim to get into the top 10 of Class S (mostly to get him out of his nonexistent hair).

During Saitama’s patrol, he bumps into Sonic, who attacks Saitama and gives him his daily dose of iron.

If you’re wondering why I don’t make more gifs, it’s because I spend too much time admiring every single frame.

Sonic causes some havoc, and Saitama knocks him out, filling his quota for the week.

During a transitional scene, we finally get to see Tatsumaki / Tornado, presumably because the studio was getting really anxious about using the character.

This is usually where I get turned into LCL.

Interestingly, Tatsumaki is voiced by the same VA that did Clementine’s voice in Overlord (just without the creepy quivering).  I have to say, it’s a good match.

So, the Hero Association investigates the “Ghost Town” in City Z where monsters constantly appear.  It just so happens to be Saitama’s neighborhood, and he’s probably the only guy crazy enough to live there.  But hey, the rent is cheap.

The association sends Golden Ball and Spring Mustachio to investigate, and they come across a seaweed monster that’s entirely too powerful for its looks.  After they get bodies, Saitama steps in and wrecks.  Also, he gets free konbu.

The anime further freaks me out by doing an early introduction of delicious Fubuki.

I swear, she has the best body in the history of anime.

We end with humans and monsters alike spreading rumors about what lurks in City Z, and after the credits we learn about Genos going up in the popularity rankings.

I am disappointed we get no meteor zoom-out.
