Hentai Hump-Day! Cream Lemon Ep. 20 of 40: Etude Part 1

With the exception of a bit of a hiccup due to my trip to Texas, it’s been nearly a full year of Hentai Hump-Day.  Roughly 40 weeks, and half of them spent on Cream Lemon episodes.  Before we continue on, I just want to say that, since I only have 25 episodes subbed, I won’t be covering more than 5 more Cream Lemon episodes.  Sucks.  Looks like I’ll have to actually work on that whole variety thing.  At least until Ami Sorekara gets subbed.

Anyway, let’s get on with the final Hentai Hump-Day of the year!

HumpdayWe start the episode off slowly.  We establish our heroine, Yurika, as a musician who has a cool boyfriend named Ryo.  And we spend 7 fucking minutes on this.

They're really milking the fact that there's already a "part 2" lined up.
They’re really milking the fact that there’s already a “part 2” lined up.

One minor detail that I’m surprised about is that we not only see the heroines parents, but they’re actually CHARACTERS!  Wowzers.  And, y’know, it’s really a small detail, but when it comes to hentai, it’s rare to have both parents seen.  Usually it’s just one.  Traditionally it was the mother, but in recent modern hentai, we’ve seen a lot of solo appearances from the father, who is almost always incestual, and usually a rapist.  So it’s a breath of fresh air to see a kind, loving (but not THAT KIND of loving) father in a hentai.

He also may or may not be Superman.

Almost halfway through the episode, we’re finally introduced to our main conflict: Yurika has a heart condition, and she isn’t expected to live a long life.  She suffers from an attack, and Ryo takes her to the hospital, where he meets Yurika’s parents.  Strangely, Yurika’s father is actually appreciative of Ryo’s role in Yurika’s life, and he expresses genuine concern for RYO, because he’ll be the one heartbroken when Yurika dies.  It’s at this point I just have to applaud that there exists a thoughtful dad like this in a hentai.  It kinda makes me want to burn a majority of titles made post 2010.

Ryo actually follows his advice and breaks up with Yurika soon after.

Well, when you put it that way... yes.
Well, when you put it that way… yes.

Now that they’ve broken up, we finally see our first hentai scene: Yurika playing with herself in the shower while thinking of Ryo.  Kinda late there.

Ryo spends some time brooding at what appears to be a cafe, with his best friend… Daley from Bubblegum Crisis?

I... don't think Kenichi Sonoda did any work on this episode... But it wouldn't surprise me.

Yurika shows up at the cafe though, and it seems they might get back together despite the whole soon-to-die thing.

Weird thing happens before the scene changes though.  One frame slipped through where Not-Daley’s cel is missing.  Animation error?  Or GHOST?

Have you ever gotten so pissed you phased out of existence?

Anyway, Yurika apologizes for snapping at Ryo, Ryo snaps at her for having a defeatist attitude, they get back together, and then they run off to HAVE SOME SEX.  At a love hotel, presumably.

Yurika is kind of adorably bashful about the whole situation.  I kinda wish more hentai were like this.

Yurika, this isn't quite what they mean by getting your panties wet.
Yurika, this isn’t quite what they mean by getting your panties wet.

Of course, they do eventually get around to doing it.

After Yurika orgasms, we have sliding stills for an epilogue, where we learn Ryo rode off to leave Yurika behind again.  One can only assume he’s running away from imminent heartbreak.  One thing’s for sure though: it’s another abrupt Cream Lemon ending.

That was just, like, hilariously cheesy.

To be honest, emotionally, this was about as good or better than the Ami series.  It seems when they made Etude, they were planning on making it a full-on subseries, but no one bought it, so they decided to wrap it up with the second episode and focused on making the Ami Sorekara episodes instead.

Speaking of their cash cow, there’s a preview of the next Cream Lemon episode, “Dream Colored Bunny,” which includes this little jab:

I can't help but think there was some passive-aggressiveness going on regarding the Ami Series' popularity.
