Kyle is told that the unit has to stay in town to slay the new demon that has arrived, but the only thing on Kyle’s mind is Elise. The two go on another date, but today is special. The two have two Runic rings made for each other. Kyle receives a ring made with a Elise’s crystallized blood, and Elise receives one made with Kyle’s crystallized blood. Whenever the owner of the other ring is close by, the ring will react and emit a faint glow. Elise decides that she will tell Kyle her secret – that she is a vampire – because he’s the only one she can trust. In her room, she is attacked by the demon. Elise attempts to fight it off with an array of spells, but she’s too inexperienced to do anything against him, and she is pinned to the ground.
Despite my screams, none came to my aid. And… I was…
Elise: *sob* Ugh… aah…
Demon: Heh. Not so feisty anymore, huh?
Elise: You… bastard… uwaaah…
I wavered between rage, sadness, and shame. I again pounded at the demon’s chest in futility when I noticed the ring I wore glowing.
Elise: He’s here… Kyle’s here. Ah! No!
No… please don’t let Kyle see me like this… please don’t get yourself get killed… But… I couldn’t help but scream his name.
Elise: KYYYYYYYLE!
Hearing my name allowed me to snap out of my trance. I was horrified at the first thing I saw. It was Elise, completely naked and in tears.
Kyle: I didn’t… Elise…
Elise: K… Kyle?
Kyle: Elise, I… I’m so sorry…
Elise: It is you… Kyle… I…
Kyle: Eli-
Before I could get another word in, Elise sat up and grasped my hands. It happened so quickly – our fingers were intertwined, our lips pressed against each other’s… a warm, sweet, feeling. It took a while to register, but we had both shared our first kiss.
Kyle: Ah… the ring… Elise, you…
Elise: Yes. And… Kyle?
Kyle: What?
Elise: If it’s with you, I don’t mind…
Kyle: A-are you sure?
Elise: Of course. So please… be gentle…
Kyle: Okay…
I still felt incredibly bad for what I did. I… I don’t even know what came over me. What happened? Was I the demon that Father Rougent mentioned? Was I the one…?
Doubt faded from my mind. I didn’t care.
I didn’t want to make anymore mistakes. I had to do this right. I gently re-entered Elise and our bodies moved in harmony. For this moment we had forgotten instantly all of our fears, anxiety, even our dreams or where we even were.
That feeling lasted for only a brief moment, however. I was snapped out of my blissful unawareness by a magic crest appearing in front of me.
Kyle: What… is that?
Elise: K-Kyle? Don’t stop…
Kyle: Aaah..
In an instant, the crest shattered just as Elise and I came. Strangely, I felt something flow inside of me and was energized and relieved at the same time.
Elise: *hahh* *hahh*
Kyle: Wh-what was that? Ah! You…

After the revelation that Lumen’s demonic awakening was the cause of the destruction of Topaz Town, he was banished from Topaz Temple and Topaz Town. After stopping by the temple one last time to see Celia and pack up his things (and dropping his ring), he decides to take up his father’s name, “Lumen” and work as a Demon Slayer. Elise joins him and takes up the name “Umbra,” “Lumen’s” shadow – the two cannot exist without the other.
