Since this game takes place between books 2 and 3, I figured why not? I’ll play it before I start Book 3.
First off, I have to say that I got the button mapping wrong with my controller. The annoying thing is that LoK only detects Xbox controllers, meaning I had to find an emulator that tricks LoK into thinking it’s an Xbox controller. Apparently, they were too lazy to program in custom controls.
Second off, the video and audio quality isn’t the best. I’m still new to this, so my next video should be better optimized.
Summary
The game starts off with Korra getting beat up by a swarm of spirits where Vaatu used to be sealed. Flashback a few months earlier. Korra wins a Pro Bending match and gets ambushed on her way back. She awakens surrounded by chi blockers and a mysterious old man, and her bending has been blocked. She fights her way out and notices her bending has been blocked longer than it ever has. She calls Naga to take her back to Air Temple Island, hoping Tenzin can help.
Thoughts
So far, it’s a pretty simple platforming action game that looks fantastic and has style. Honestly, I kinda wish there’s an option to keep bending blocked so I can stick to element-based martial arts. The difficulty is a little steep, and the game has an annoying tendency to “teach” me how to do things after I’ve already done them. Countering requires precise timing that’s tricky to get at first, and as far as I can tell, there isn’t much reward to it when you could just as easily and more safely interrupt attacks by attacking first.
It really doesn’t do anything fresh and feels like pretty much every other title of its genre, but for what it is, it gets the job done.
