Words Worth is a true classic, even if it draws from Elf’s older works and is in turn squeezed dry of ideas for Elf’s later works… There’s just something about the setting and the characters that’s so damned endearing about the entire thing. It helps that the director of the anime KNOWS what makes a good sex scene. It also helps that this is, no joke, one of the greatest adaptations of a video game ever. Sure, it’s compressed, it cuts out about a third of the characters, and it leaves a lot of mysteries open, but on the other hand it hits upon most of the main story points, you don’t have to navigate horribad dungeon mazes, and some of the changes make for some excellent H-scenes that you wouldn’t see in the games. Way better than the Yu-No adaptation.
I DO wish I still had the game on Kiria as a supplement, but alas, it’s not to be. I do hope to reacquire it someday if I could just find a place that has it. The light novels also look rather interesting, and I’d love to give those a look when I have the time.
BTW, before I continue on, I have to mention that I DID play and complete the Yu-No game. It was an interesting experience that I hope to do a full post on someday. But more on that later. Let’s delve into Words Worth.
Oh god, I completely skipped over April for Hentai Hump-Day. So. Much. Persona…. But now that I’ve beaten it twice and just need a little cleanup for my Platinum, I can finally focus on my ELF tribute. This time, we’re looking at Dokyusei, the game that practically defined the high school dating genre. You have one summer to get closer to the girl of your choice. To do so, you’ll have to repeatedly bump into your love interest at the right times and go on dates – the unfortunate implication being that to win the game you have to go full-on stalker and memorize her schedule.
I actually wanted to cover the franchise bit by bit, but I kinda panicked and canceled my planned first post when I realized I no longer had the Dragon Knight 1 OVA. Le sigh. But, I’ve still got plenty to cover, so let’s get it all out in the open!
One of Elf’s flagship titles is the Dragon Knight series. While nowhere near the earliest ero-RPG (Rance wasn’t the first, but it barely came out before Dragon Knight), Dragon Knight was notable for being an OK dungeon crawler with comparatively great graphics along with really cute character designs. Basically, it was the turning point when ero-RPGs stepped up from crude novelty act to professional medium for delivering erotic content.
I touched on this a bit back during the transition to the new server… so you wouldn’t know what I’m talking about since my last post was deleted.
Anyway, I learned in November 2015 that legendary Eroge developer Elf Corporation had closed up shop for good the month before. I planned on doing a tribute to Elf, and dammit, I’m a year late, but I’m doing it. What triggered me to do so? The announcement that there will be a new anime adaptation of their classic game Yu-No this year to coincide with the PS4/PSV remake. I am hyped as fuck (and setting myself up for eventual disaster I’m sure).
